Glenfinnan Viaduct
The Glenfinnan Viaduct is a celebrated feat of Victorian engineering and the longest concrete railway bridge in Scotland. Built in the 1890s by “Concrete Bob” McAlpine, its 21 sweeping arches carry the West Highland Railway high above the River Finnan, on the scenic route between Fort William and Mallaig. From nearby viewpoints, visitors can watch trains curve across the dramatic landscape, including the famous Jacobite steam train, known worldwide as the “Hogwarts Express” from the Harry Potter films. Operating seasonally, it offers one of the most iconic rail journeys in the world, alongside year-round local services that traverse the same breathtaking line.
